The Role of Leadership in Building the Future - Dr. Denise Smart
 

On Friday, October 19th, join us for a presentation by Dr. Denise Smart, Dean of the McCoy College of Business at Texas State University at San Marcos, on the topic: “The Role of Leadership in Building the Future.”  

Our mission is to elevate the role of leadership in the lives of the citizens of Central Texas; to focus on the vitality and necessity of regional leadership capital; and to serve others through the process of encouraging individuals to grow, prosper and make a significant difference through the practice of leadership skills.

Denise T. Smart is Professor of Marketing and Dean of the McCoy College of Business Administration at Texas State University-San Marcos.  The McCoy College is home to 3,100 undergraduate and 400 graduate business students along with 1800 Texas State students pursuing minors in business.
 
Prior to becoming Dean, Denise served as the Chair of the Department of Marketing and Associate Dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  She has a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Texas A&M University, an MBA from the University of South Dakota, and a B.S. in Home Economics with a major in Textiles and Clothing from South Dakota State University.

Her teaching areas are promotional management and advertising, and her research interests are in consumer communication with manufacturers, marketing education, and advertising-related issues.  Her teaching has been recognized by the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M University Distinguished Teaching Award for the Mays College of Business Administration, the Outstanding Educator Award from the Greater Omaha Chapter of the American Marketing Association, the University of Nebraska at Omaha Executive MBA Professor of the Year Award, and the Prentice Hall Outstanding Educator Award for the Association of Collegiate Marketing Educators.  In 2005 she was named Students in Free Enterprise “Most Supportive Dean of the Year.”

She is a past president of the American Marketing Association Academic Division, the Southern Marketing Association, the Allied Southern Business Association and the Texas A&M Opera and Performing Arts Society (OPAS).  Currently, she is president of the Council of Texas Business Deans, secretary of the Southwestern Business Deans Association, and serves on advisory boards for the Southwest Texas Border Regional Small Business Development Centers, McCoy College of Business Administration Development Foundation, and the Society for Marketing Advances Development Foundation.

She and her husband Dennis live in San Marcos and are parents to two sons, Peter and Christopher.

The breakfast will be held from 7:30 until 9:00 a.m. on Friday, October 19th,  at the Austin Club.  The Austin Club is located on the north side of 9th Street between Congress and Brazos.
