On Friday, April 18th, 2008, join us for a presentation by former State Comptroller, John Sharp on the topic: Leadership in Education Tax Reform.
Our mission is to elevate the role of leadership in the lives of the citizens of Central Texas; to focus on the vitality and necessity of regional leadership capital; and to serve others through the process of encouraging individuals to grow, prosper and make a significant difference through the practice of leadership skills.
Mr. Sharp is a principal at Ryan & Company, a Dallas-based tax consulting firm. In 2005, he was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to serve as Chair of the Texas Tax Reform Commission. In 1990, Mr. Sharp was elected Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. During his eight years of service in that office he initiated many innovative programs, including the Texas Performance Review, the Texas School Performance Review, the Texas Tomorrow Fund and the Lone Star Card, all of which still benefit the Comptrollers office and the State today. He was elected to the Texas House of Representatives, representing Victoria and Calhoun counties, and was later elected as a State Senator from South Texas. In 1985 he was elected to the Texas Railroad Commission where he served a four-year term. A graduate of Texas A&M University where he was elected class president as well as student body president, he also earned a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Texas State University while working full time at the Legislative Budget Board in Austin.
Special Note: Because Mr. Sharp is required to leave at 8:30, his presentation will begin at 7:45, rather than at 8:00.
The breakfast will be held from 7:30 until 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18th, at the Austin Club. The Austin Club is located on the north side of 9th Street between Congress and Brazos.
